How Acupuncture Can Help Psoriasis

January 20th, 2010 admin No comments

Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory disease that produces scaly skin that is rather unsightly. Surprisingly, many people with psoriasis are able to find relief with acupuncture.

Because of its unsightliness – even to close family members, when psoriasis flares up it creates a problem. It can affect rather small patches or large areas on the body. Here is why acupuncture may be able to help psoriasis.

Causes of Psoriasis

The cause of psoriasis has not yet been determined. However it is known to be genetic, sometimes skipping a generation. The problem stems from a rapid growth of cell production. Cells are produced faster than they are lost so there is a build of cells that results in a scale effect.

Scientists are not certain what causes this scaling of the skin cells, but there is a general belief it is related to the immune system. It is considered to be a severe case of psoriasis when it covers 30% or more of the body. Those that have psoriasis are also candidates to get a form of arthritis called psoriatic arthritis.

Things That Can Trigger Psoriasis

Psoriasis has a number of known things that can trigger a flare-up of the disease. It can remain relatively inactive, at times, but when these triggers occur, it will often produce a recurrence. These flare-ups are:

Psoriasis Help, Please?

December 27th, 2009 admin 4 comments

I have had psoriasis for about 5 years now. I have it mainly on my arms and legs, feet and hands and a few patches on my ears. For me, this is the time of year it usually gets better but not this year. I have tried MG217, Psoriasin ointment, many prescription creams and ointments, Aveeno baths, Aveeno soap and lotion, vaseline, baby oil, vitamin e gel. I watch my diet and water intake. I do not have a lot of stress in my life. I cannot do tanning beds and/or natural sunlight as I am allergic to the sun. I still have adverse reactions even with sunscreen. My cholesterol levels are good as is the rest of my bloodwork. Nothing the dermatologist has prescribed has helped. I can’t afford the Raptiva shot becuase I have no insurance. The dr. is reluctant to prescribe it anyways due to the fact that I get frequent headaches. Does anybody know of a treatment that has helped them or somebody they know? Thanks so much!

I have had psoriasis since I was 9. I’m 27 now. No medicines help. No creams or topical prescriptions help. It never goes away, but my dermotologist suggested going to the tanning bed. Just wondered if anyone knew “why” this helps or “how” it helps psoriasis.

Does Anyone Know A Good Holistic Shampoo That Can Help My Psoriasis?

November 24th, 2009 admin 5 comments

Ever since I grew my hair long, I have increased psoriasis on my scalp, especially on the back of my head. Cutting my hair short is not an option because when it is short I get too many comments about looking boyish. Right now I use infusim shampoo, and it helps better than any of the supposed psoriasis or dandruff shampoos, but I am looking for a natural treatment that will increase the oxygen to my scalp and reduce or get rid of my psoriasis. I use hydrocortisone valerate cream to treat other small areas and it works great, but I can’t appy it to my scalp because it doesn’t get down in there. Any ideas?
